Vinery shuttler Big Brown was well received when two of his first crop colts paraded at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected yearling sale earlier this week.  The duo combined to make $370K.

IEAH Stables bought the colt from Cool Ghoul (Silver Ghost) for $220K.  He is a half-brother to LR Belmont Tremont Stakes winner Dagnabit (Freud).

William Schettine purchased the colt out of La Femme Galante (Grand Slam) for $150K.  His dam was stakes placed at Mountaineer Park and she is a sister to LR Aqueduct Rare Treat Hcp winner Dina (Dynaformer).

They follow on from Big Brown’s triumphant Fasig Tipton Kentucky yearling sale in July where was the leading first season sire by average.  Four of his yearlings averaged $130K headed by the roan filly from Irish Smoke (Smoke Glacken) that made $220K.  Her dam was a G1 winner of the Spinaway Stakes.

”The first crop of Big Browns sold very well last year as weanlings which was an obvious pointer to what might happen at the yearling sales,” Vinery’s Adam White said.  “They making good money in a tough climate.”

The next Big Browns to go under the hammer will be at the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred yearling sale at Saratoga this weekend, August 13 and 14.  

There are colts from Jerome’s Folly (Turkoman) and Procellous (Smarty Jones) plus fillies from Sugar Punch (K. O. Punch) and Absolute Magic (Unbridled).

Big Brown (Boundary) was a G1 winner of the Kentucky Derby and he covered 131 mares in his first southern season at Vinery in 2010.
