A partnership of Coolmore Stud, Stonestreet Farm, Unifaith Bloodstock and Aquis Farm / Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) topped Day 2 of the Inglis Easter yearling sale with a $2.40 million bid for the Medaglia d’Oro colt from stakes winning mare Hoss Amor.
Blue Sky Bloodstock’s Julian Blaxland rated the colt as the best yearling at the sale. “There had been a lot of talk about him. We got a group together with Coolmore, Stonestreet from America, Unifaith and Aquis Farm who I was representing.
“He’s a magnificent colt and Chris Waller will train him with the aim of turning him into a stallion. He cost a little more than we thought we would have to pay,” Blaxland told ANZ Bloodstock News on Wednesday. “There is stiff completion for these stallion prospects.”
Blue Sky Bloodstock also purchased the Fastnet Rock colt from Champion Canadian filly Inglorious for $900,000. He will race for a partnership that also includes Aquis Farm and Coolmore Stud in addition to South African-based Mayfair Bloodstock.
“He is a lovely colt and looks very sharp – Fastnet Rock is having a resurgence and he had five or six runners in the Blue Diamond this year.”
Blaxland said the first two days of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale had provided plenty of competition among buyers for quality horses. “There’s plenty of money at Easter, as always, for the Top 10% of the catalogue.
“We have been able to partner with some great organisations on two really nice colts. We bid a lot of money on Day 1 but walked out empty-handed but it’s been a lot better on Day 2.”
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Belmont Bloodstock (FBAA) bought a Fastnet Rock filly from Coolmore for $600,000. Her dam Port Augusta is a half-sister to Holy Roman Emperor.
Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy had purchased a Tavistock sister to Werther for $400,000 on Day 1 from Trelawney Stud.
Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) bought a Redoute’s Choice filly out of Black Opal Stakes placed Later Gator (More Than Ready) for $520,000. It’s a black-type family going back to Light Up The World, a Rory’s Jester mare who won a G2 Challenge Stakes at Randwick.
Earlier in the day, Boomer’s Craig Rounsefell weighed in with $160,000 for the So You Think half-sister to Group 1 star Danleigh. She has already be registered to race as Thoughtfully and will be prepared by Bjorn Baker.
So You Think is off to a great start at stud and DGR Thoroughbred Services (FBAA) was successful with a $240,000 bid for his filly from Norbows Delight. The dam is a half-sister to stakes winning fillies Appearance and Mascareri.
DGR principal Duncan Ramage bought So You Think for $110,000 at the 2008 Karaka Premier Yearling Sale and managed his G1 Cox Plate career in Australia for owner Dato Tan Chin Nam.
Other FBAA members to sign sale sheets among a strong buying bench on Wednesday were Peter Ford (Pierro filly – $200,000), Mark Pilkington (Medaglia d’Oro colt – $150,000) and Astute Bloodstock’s Louis Le Metayer who bought a Sebring colt for $400,000 on Tuesday and added a Savabeel filly for $320,000 on Wednesday.
