Inglis graduates took centre stage in Randwick’s juvenile features on Saturday.  Blueblood filly Satin Shoes won the Widden Stakes and bargain basement buy Diamond To Pegasus was successful in the Canonbury Stakes.

Satin Shoes looked one of the sharpest youngsters to have raced in Sydney before the Christmas break and that ensured she started a $1.28 favourite when resuming in the Listed Widden Stakes.

Satin Shoes (2f Flying Spur – Star Satire by Volksraad) cost $700,000 at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale from leading Scone nursery Cressfield.  She is prepared by Clarry Connors for Dr Edmund Bateman and the wily Warwick Farm trainer predicts more improvement in the coming weeks.  

“She’s still pretty gross and has a long way to go yet,” Connors explained with an eye to the Golden Slipper.  “Touch wood she will hold it together.”

TAB Sportbet has Satin Shoes on the second line of Golden Slipper markets at $10.  

Arrowfield champion Flying Spur sired the Widden winner from G1 Otaki Maori Stakes winner Star Satire.  Her earlier foals include Zabeel filly Zarzuela, a G2 winner of the NZ Championship Stakes and Great Northern Guineas.

At the other end of the scale, Diamond To Pegasus was plucked out of last year’s Inglis Winter Sale for just $7,000 and he survived a protest to provide a $26 upset in the Listed Canonbury Stakes.

Diamond To Pegasus (2g Fusaichi Pegasus – Exo by Hennessy) is trained by Tony Sergi at Queanbeyan and he has taken the youngster from a Moruya maiden to a black-type triumph at headquarters in less than a month.

“I haven’t really mapped out a program for his him,” Sergi said on Saturday.  “But his times at home have been sensational so I did expect him to run a good race.”

Diamond To Pegasus is a half-brother to Sydney winners Another Nip (Langfuhr) and Markab (Galileo).  Their dam Exo has a Not a Single Doubt colt on the ground.
