Promising stayer Ora Dare stepped straight up from maiden ranks at the provincials to a city victory at Belmont on Wednesday.
The Adam Durrant trained gelding was doing his best work at the finish of the Glenys Godfrey Hcp (2100m). He had scored a breakthrough win over 2200m at Northam on August 15.
Ora Dare (4g Oratorio – Brodrae by Barathea) is a younger half-brother to War Council (Commands) who won over 2800m at Canterbury. “He’s a decent horse in the making,” stable foreman Jason Miller predicted. “He was a convincing winner up at Northam but it was an even bigger effort today. He carried 59kg and was a long way back on the home turn.”
Owner Rod Cosgrove bought Ora Dare for $75,000 from Mungrup Stud at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions. Other stayers in his family include Chipolata (G1 WATC Derby) and Hill Of Grace (G2 Moonee Valley Oaks).
Mungrup champion Oratorio (Aus) is better known for siring sprinters and his latest is unbeaten filly Orable. She also came off a Pinjarra maiden to win the Westspeed Hcp (1200m) at Belmont.
Orable (3f Oratorio – Serpara by Serheed) is trained by Keith Mifflin for long-time clients Ray Warren and Lex Piper. “She really hit the line down at Pinjarra,” Piper said. “And ‘Miff’ reckoned she was good enough to bring to town.”
Oratorio (Stravinsky) clinched a third Western Australian 2YO sires’ title last month. He stands at Mungrup for at $13,750 (inc gst) service fee.
Year after year, Oratorio dominates locally based stallions at the Perth Magic Millions and that’s ensured breeders supporting him have been amply rewarded. Three of his yearlings made six figures in February and, all up, 14 lots averaged just under $60,000.
