Breeders’ Cup – Goldikova 50-50 to stay in training

Champion Anabaa mare Goldikova could stay in training for 2010.  Trainer Freddie Head said it was “50-50” whether she would continue to race next season as a five-year-old.

Goldikova overcame a wide draw to defend her G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile crown last Saturday at Santa Anita.  She came from well off the pace to win by a half-length in a blistering 1.32.20s.  Her record now reads 15: 10-2-2 with US$4.09 million in prizemoney.

“It was a fantastic performance and she is really something,” Head said.  “The way she made up the ground was unbelievable, and she seems to have come out of the race well.  We will decide her future in the next few weeks.”

In addition to her two Breeders’ Cup Mile trophies, Goldikova has also claimed G1 victories in the 2008 Prix du Moulin, 2009 Prix Jacques le Marois, 2009 and Falmouth Stakes and the past two editions of the Prix Rothschild.
