Carrara put himself in the frame for the G1 Caulfield Guineas and in the process picked up a lucrative Inglis $100,000 Race Series Bonus when winning the Listed Henry Bucks Best Dressed Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Carrara was a $200,000 buy from the Little Plains Stud draft at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale is proving to be an outstanding advertisement for his sire Elvstroem.
His earnings are now knocking on the door of the $400,000 mark, with Saturday’s first prize of $75,000, coupled with the $100,000 Inglis Bonus almost doubling his previous tally.
The Tony Vasil trained colt is the latest 2008 Inglis Yearling Sale graduate to add his name to a growing list of Bonus winners as part of the $2.5 million series.
Last month at Seymour, the Mike Moroney trained Sophrosyne picked up a $50,000 Bonus, while Spring Champion Stakes aspirant Hus Der Lieften took out a $100,000 Bonus when scoring at Rosehill on August 1.
The first opportunity for 2009 Inglis Yearling Sale graduates comes up at Moonee Valley on October 24 with the running of the $250,000 Inglis Juvenile (1000m). Last year, the same race was won by Starspangledbanner, who has trained on to be one of the leading three-year-olds in Melbourne.
