Champion winner by Domesday

Doctor Doom made all the running for a brave G1 victory in the ATC Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Doctor Doom (3g Domesday – Orcym by Orpen) finished second in the G2 Gloaming Stakes over 1800m at his previous start and the extra furlong was no drama as he held off NZ bred colt Darci Be Good by a half-neck.

The Spring Champion Stakes winner is prepared by Guy Walter who said the gelding will head for a spell before returning for an autumn campaign geared towards the G1 Randwick Guineas and G1 Rosehill Guineas.

Doctor Doom is the fifth stakes winner for Darley sire Domesday and his second at the highest level following Pressday’s G1 victory in the T J Smith Classic in Brisbane last year.

Domesday stands at Darley’s Northwood Park in Victoria for a fee of $22,000 (inc gst).

Doctor Doom is raced by owner-breeder Craig Hardy and the Unique Style Syndicate.. He is the first winner for Orcym who won races at Hawkesbury and Gosford in 2005.

Hardy bought the mare at the 2006 Scone Sale for just $1,800.  She foaled another colt by Domesday last year.

Walter made it a G1 double later in the day when Streama scored a six length victory in the Flight Stakes.  The Stratum filly has dominated her division during the spring having won the G1 Tea Rose and G2 Furious Stakes in September.
