Neeson Conquers Premiere Stakes

Vinery stallion Mossman was expected to come up trumps with star sprinter Love Conquers All in the G2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Love Conquers All started an odds-on favourite after a blistering victory in G2 The Shorts at Rosehill last month but he was beaten all ends up by fellow Mossman gelding Neeson.

Neeson (5g Mossman – Favorite Actress by Don’t Forget Me) had won the LR Hawkesbury Guineas and LR STC Darby Munro Stakes last year prompting trainer Joe Pride to declare him a Group 1 horse in the making.

But the gelding had gone more than twelve months without winning since the G3 AJC Tramway Handicap in September 2010.  “That a relief.  I’ve been way too outspoken with this horse,” Pride said.  “He’s the best athlete I’ve ever trained but not necessarily the best racehorse.”

Neeson is from Sydney winner Favorite Actress who hails from the family of Zeditave.  He failed to reach a $70,000 reserve at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale and has now earned over $634,000.

Mossman is a G1 winning son of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Success Express and he has just broken through the 500 wins milestone in Australia.  World-wide, he has sired 205 winners of 561 races at a 61% strike rate.

Mossman stands for a $27,500 (inc gst) fee at Vinery.
