Arrowfield Stud stallions have jumped the blocks in the early-season juvenile races around Australia and New Zealand.
It’s still too early to pay close attention to the 2YO sires’ table, however, spring juvenile results are always noted by buyers who begin inspecting sale yearlings as early as this week.
After supplying four winners and four placegetters from only 12 starters in the two year-old division, Arrowfield sires have put themselves in front of every trainer, agent, syndicator and owner keen to minimise the wait between purchase and race-day results.
Charge Forward has sired G3 VRC Maribyrnong Plate winner Direct Charge and MVRC Inglis Banner winner Crack A Roadie. The Moonee Valley event was given Restricted Listed status for the first time this year and Crack A Roadie followed up with a close second to Direct Charge at Flemington.
That pair and impressive Warwick Farm debut winner Assail give Charge Forward a clear lead on the 2YO Sires’ table with prizemoney of $340,250.
Snitzel holds third place on the list with earnings of almost $200,000 thanks to city winners Sweet Idea, O’Hara de Belle, Petrol Power and the twice stakes-placed Shamus Award.
Fourth spot on the 2YO Sires’ table is occupied by Not A Single Doubt with $165,825 in prizemoney after Villa Verde’s back-to-back stakes wins at Caulfield and Flemington.
Flying Spur’s talented son Rockford also earned black-type when he flew home for second in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial in October.
New Zealand results have boost those statistics this season – Zaragoza (Charge Forward) won at Te Rapa last Saturday, Choice Snitzel (Snitzel) scored on debut at Riccarton and Not A Single Doubt’s son Doubtless bolted in by five lengths on debut at Ruakaka.
