NZ Bloodstock’s inaugural Southern Bonus Race will be held on Ladies Day at Riccarton on Wednesday. A field of 8 three-year-olds compete for the $50,000 race bonus.
The Southern Bonus Race is an open three-year-old event over 1400 metres, with qualified 2011 South Island Sale graduates holding preference in field selection, and a $50,000 Bonus set to be won by the first qualified graduate past the post.
This means that qualified horse doesn’t have to win the race to take the bonus – they only have to be the first qualified horse across the line.
Last start winner Kostalot (Any Suggestion) heads the list of Southern Bonus Race qualified horses. He was a very impressive when winning at Timaru for trainer Neil Coulbeck.
The Sharon Robertson trained Shaspic (Danroad) comes into the race off a good last start second at Waimate in October. Michael Pitman will saddle two Southern Bonus Race qualified horses with Strawberry Blonde (Brilliance) and Snowdon (Coats Choice). The latter will making his debut after winning both of his trials.
The Steve Anderton trained Langton Katie (Remind) and Steven Prince prepared Madam Dusautoir (Bachelor Duke) both finished third on debut but have drawn wide.
Gallant Trick (Gallant Guru) who finished behind Kostalot at his last start at Timaru will line up for trainer Russell McKay. The Nikki & Barrie Blatch trained Ready To Rule (Perfectly Ready) completes the field.
