Cheval De Troy off the mark in Queensland

Royston Stud resident Cheval De Troy sired his first winner at Townsville on Tuesday.

Craiglea Carina (2f Cheval De Troy – Clementina by Scenic) got him off the mark in the Jupiters Hotel Hcp (1000m) at Cluden Park.

She is a homebred for Stan and Marilyn Johnston.  The Craiglea Stud couple had entered 7 of the 12 acceptors for the QTIS event which carried $13,500 in bonus prizemoney.  The winner is QTIS qualified.

They are all trained by Peter Fleming at Gympie and the best of Craiglea Carina’s stablemates was Craiglea Stellar (Cheval de Troy) who finished less than a length away in third place.

The placegetters are the first to race out of Cheval De Troy’s second crop.  Only four of his initial crop have faced the starter.

Cheval De Troy (Zabeel) stood at Craiglea before transferring to Royston.  He was trained by Colin Jillings for a Listed victory in the Bonecrusher Stakes at Ellerslie and he also finished third to Jymcarew and Eremein in the 2005 G1 Canterbury Guineas.

He was sold to Hong Kong but didn’t acclimatise.  Agent Anton Koolman stands him in association with Royston for a $3,300 (inc gst) service fee.
