Coolmore Stud buys share in Shanghai Bobby

Coolmore Stud has purchased a half-share in unbeaten two year-old Shanghai Bobby.  The Todd Pletcher trained colt is the opening 2-1 favourite for the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile this Saturday.

Shanghai Bobby (Harlan’s Holiday) will race in the name of Starlight Stable, Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith at Santa Anita.

After breaking his maiden at Aqueduct in April, he won at Listed level before claiming the G2 Hopeful Stakes and G1 Champagne Stakes.  He had been a $105,000 buy at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Starlight managing partner Jack Wolf said he is looking forward to the partnership and that all management decisions will be shared by the ownership entities.  “This horse has done everything we have asked of him,” Wolf said.  “I’m flattered they want to be in business with us.  And it couldn’t have happened without Todd.”

Pletcher also prepares champion mare Turbulent Descent for Coolmore.  They bought her from the Blinkers On syndicate this year and she is one of the favourites for the G1 BC Filly & Mare Sprint on Saturday.

Turbulent Descent (Congrats) will be out to make amends after going down as an odds-on favourite in the 2011 BC Filly & Mare Sprint at Churchill Downs.
