Conviction looks to have a bright future if Tuesday’s victory in Hobart is a true indication of her ability. The beautifully bred filly gave her rivals a galloping lesson in the Derby Ball Maiden Plate (1200m).
Conviction (3f Keep The Faith – Tycoon Sali by Last Tycoon) made the most of a good barrier draw to lead despite being pressured all the way to the home turn by Shardoo.
Jockey Stephen Maskiell called on the filly to extend in the straight and she responded magnificently to defeat the favourite Tempestuous (Lonhro) by next to two lengths.
Conviction is trained by Dave and Scott Brunton at Seven Mile Beach for a syndicate that bought her for $33,000 from Camoquhill Stud at the 2010 Tasmanian Magic Millions.
A daughter of Swettenham Stud sire Keep The Faith, she is a younger half-sister to G3 AJC Tramway Hcp winner Bank Robber (Dash for Cash) and Flemington feature winner Kwassa Kwassa (Distant Music).
The Bruntons went back and bought the Dash for Cash – Tycoon Sali filly from Camoquhill owner Graeme McLeod for $15,000 at the 2011 Tasmanian Magic Millions.
