Grand galloper Danzylum will get his chance at racing’s elite level following a brilliant win in the LR John Dillon Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Australia Day. He strolled home by almost two lengths to continue the red hot run for Cranbourne trainer Robbie Griffiths.
“He’s a beauty,” Griffiths said. “He makes his own luck and will probably have a crack at the G1 Orr Stakes.”
Danzylum (7g Danzero – Political Asylum by Plush) is a half brother to G1 Stradbroke Handicap winner Landsighting and was purchased by Griffiths for $230,000 at the 2005 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale. At that stage it was the most expensive horse Griffiths had ever purchased at auction.
From his 61 career outings, Danzylum has notched 13 wins and earned over $648,000. The Danzero gelding won over 1440m at Caulfield in December and added a second LR Manifold Stakes to his record at Flemington on January 15.
“He isn’t proven at Group 1 level but you never know,” Griffith’s added. “But he’s fit and well and he loves the track and distance of the Orr Stakes.”
Danzylum is part-owned by Janet Gaist who runs Manner Lodge at Rochester. The Victorian town was evacuated after the Campaspe River broke its banks earlier this month and all Manner Lodge’s stock, including resident stallion Delzao, had to be moved to higher ground.
