Sheikh Mohammed’s German 2000 Guineas winner Frozen Power has been retired to stand at Ballyhane Stud for the 2012 northern season.
Frozen Power (4c Oasis Dream – Musical Treat by Royal Academy) retires with a record of 5 wins from 18 starts after being purchased by agent John Ferguson for 500,000gns at Book 1 of the 2008 Tattersalls October yearling sale.
After opening his account at Epsom Down in July 2009, Frozen Power won the LR Prix de la Huderie at Deauville and, after a short winter break, returned to capture the 2010 Meydan Classic in Dubai.
Originally prepared by Saeed bin Suroor, he was transferred to Mahmood Al Zarooni to win the G2 German 2000 Guineas at Cologne before finishing fifth behind Dick Turpin in the G1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly.
He was retired after four unplaced efforts this term and will join a roster at Ballyhane Stud that includes fellow newcomer Roderic O’Connor (Galileo). The Swettenham bred colt was a G1 winner of this year’s Irish 2000 Guineas.
The County Carlow stud is also home to Arakan, Captain Rio, Dandy Man and Majestic Missile. His fee has been set at 4,500 euros.
Frozen Power was bred by Rathbarry Stud and is by leading young Juddmonte sire Oasis Dream. His dam Musical Treat was a stakes performer at Goodwood and Chepstow for Swettenham Stud. She is also the dam of Finsceal Beo (Mr Greeley) who was a G1 winner of the 2007 English and Irish 1000 Guineas.
