Dream Pedlar named Tasmanian Horse of the Year

Armidale Stud dominated the Tasmanian Horse of the Year awards held at the Launceston Country Club on the weekend.  Dream Pedlar, who was born and raised at Armidale, was named Tasmanian Horse of the Year for 2010-11.

The Troy Blacker trained gelding is raced by Michael Mee and Robert Nightingale and he set a weight carrying record of 61kg to win the Devonport Cup (1800m) in January.

Dream Pedlar (7g West Quest – Unamah by Top Avenger) also won the Listed Kevin Sharkie Stakes in Hobart after a successful mainland campaign where he won the LR Bendigo Cup and Ballarat Gold Nugget.  He was also fourth home in the G3 Coongy Hcp at Caulfield and the G3 Queen’s Cup at Flemington.

“He’s the best horse I’ve ever trained,” Blacker said after Dream Pedlar broke a 60 year-old record at Devonport.  “His biggest asset is his strength and he’s every bit a racehorse.”

Dream Pedlar has been nominated for the $100,000 Paris Lane Stakes (1400m) at Flemington this Saturday.
