Kincaple (NZ) completed a winning weekend for Rich Hill Stud sire Pentire in the $100,000 Coolgardie Cup on Sunday.

Pentire’s champion sprinter Mufhasa had won the G1 Makfi Challenge at Hastings on Saturday.

Kincaple (6g Pentire – Kincaple Lass by Kaapstad) ranged up to the leaders at the furlong and was too strong for Brave Knight and Our O’l Fella in the first leg of the Goldfields Triple Crown.

The Mike Reed trained gelding will be favoured to make it a clean-sweep in the $110,000 LR Boulder Cup (1760m) on September 10 and the $150,000 LR Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m) on September 17.

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Jockey Club also offers a $100,000 bonus for the Triple Bonus.  The Bob Peters owned gelding Lawmaker was the last galloper to claim it in 2002.

“We are going for the big three and I think he is the right horse for the job,” Reed said.   “He is a nice type and is a perfect stayer for our conditions in WA.”:

Kincaple has been a revelation since joining Reed’s Hazelmere stables from Victoria.  He has won three from four in the west and the only loss was a neck decision behind Trustee Brown at Belmont earlier this month.

The Kiwi bred gelding was a $150,000 buy from the Rich Hill draft at the 2007 NZB Karaka yearling sale.  He had won races at Cranbourne (2) and Seymour for trainer Jim Conlon before changing hands again for $70,000 in May.

His dam Kincaple Lass is an unraced half-sister to Riccarton G3 winner Kincaple Lad (Antic Boy).  Her earlier winners include Mutual Friendship (Bertolini) who won five races in Hong Kong.  The mare has a 2yo filly and a yearling colt by Pentire.
