Darley sire Dubawi and Irish trainer Kevin Prendergast have enjoyed a tremendous run in the juvenile division this year and they combined to win again with stylish colt Mujaazef at Listowel on Tuesday.
Mujaazef (2c Dubawi – Khubza by Green Desert) started an odds-on favourite in the Jet O’Carroll Memorial (1400m) and delivered in some style by three lengths. The winner is raced by Sheikh Hamdan and was a 180,000gns buy at Tattersalls in October 2008.
He is a younger half-brother to Trans Island (Selkirk) who was a G2 winner of the Prix du Rond at Longchamp and the G3 Diomed Stakes at Epsom. His half-sister Welsh Guide (Selkirk) was a G3 winner in Italy and a Listed winner of the Rosemary Stakes at Ascot.
Their second dam is a half-sister to College Chapel, a Vincent O’Brien trained sprinter who was a Group winner at the Curragh, Deauville and Ascot. He shuttled to New Zealand in the 1990s.
Mujaazef’s victory comes days after Dubawi completed a feature double at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting. His filly Sand Vixen won the G2 Flying Childers Stakes and his colt Poet’s Voice scored a G2 victory in the Champagne Stakes.
Dubawi leads the UK-Ireland first-season sires’ premiership with 22 individual winners and his first crop of Australian juveniles will be in the spotlight this season. He is quoted at $11 in the winners category for the premiership by sportingbet.com.au.
Mujaazef is part of a strong two year-old team being prepared by Kevin Prendergast this year. He trained Termagant (Powerscourt) to win last month’s Moyglare Stud Stakes and he completed a G1 double when Kingsfort (War Chant) won the National Stakes at the Curragh last Saturday.
Prendergast has entered Mujaazef for the Tattersalls Timeform Million at Newmarket on October 3.
