Dubawi off the mark in Australasia

Darley stallion Dubawi sired his first southern hemisphere winner when Cellarmaster scored impressively at Otaki on Thursday, November 12.

Cellarmaster (2c Dubawi – Oenology by Sound Reason) was unplaced on debut at Otaki in September but Palmerston North trainer Kevin Gray had him ready to fire second time out.  The colt comfortably accounted for Queen Of The Castle (Castledale) and My Mojito (Bertolini) in the Madge Coachlines Stakes (800m).

Cellarmaster is a half-brother to Our Bahare (Bahhare) who won five races up to 2100m and was also G1 placed in the 2003 Victoria Derby behind Elvstroem and Kempinsky.  Oenology had won three races up to 2025m before going to stud.  She is a half-sister to the dam of 1997 Victoria Derby winner Second Coming.

Dubawi infused enough speed into the pedigree for Cellarmaster to score over a half-mile so early in the season.  A son of Godolphin hero Dubai Millenium, he was a G1 winner of the National Stakes at the Curragh during an unbeaten juvenile campaign.  He returned at three to add more G1 victories over Oratorio in the Irish 2000 Guineas and Valixir in the Prix Jacques le Marois.

Dubawi has been a revelation with his first crop of European juveniles this season.  He is way out in front in the winners category and increased his lead this week when Comradeship won at Southwell on Wednesday and Nafura at Wolverhampton on Thursday.

Comradeship (2c Dubawi – Friendlier by Zafonic) is trained by John Gosden for Princess Haya Of Jordan.  He was a 110,000 guineas buy at Tattersalls in October 2008 and is from an unraced half-sister to User Friendly (Slip Anchor) who won the English, Irish and Yorkshire Oaks in 1992 before clinching divisional honours in the English St Leger.

Nafura (2f Dubawi – Mysterial by Alleged) is a Darley – Godolphin homebred and she won by over four lengths at her fourth start this season.  She is bred in the purple being a half-sister to Darley sires Dubai Destination and Librettist.  Her dam is a half-sister to top-class sprinter Agnes World who also shuttled out here to Widden Stud.

Her win took the Dubawi tally to 32 individual winners this year headed by Godolphin’s G2 winners Poet’s Voice (Champagne Stakes) and Sand Vixen (Flying Childers).

Dubawi sired 80 foals from his first Australian crop and www.sportingbet.com.au has priced him at $11 to win the premiership for individual winners in 2009-10
