Durham Lodge catalogues half-brother to Karuta Queen

Karuta Queen’s amazing win in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on Saturday has turned the spotlight on her younger half-brother being sold by Durham Lodge at the Perth Magic Millions yearling sale on Friday, February 11.

Durham Lodge owners David and Jeremy Smith were quietly confident the colt would make an impact in his own right but Karuta Queen has given him a lot more exposure in the lead-up to the Perth Sale

Catalogued as Lot 331, the colt is by Glenlogan Park sire Show A Heart.  “He’s an outstanding individual and we’ve rated him ever since he was a foal,” Jeremy Smith said this week.  “He’s by one of Australia’s leading and most popular sires in Show A Heart and is from Melbourne juvenile stakes winner Card Queen.”

Durham Lodge purchased Card Queen from Turangga Stud for $55,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.  The mare foaled a filly by Durham sire Blackfriars in September and was then bred back to the Victoria Derby winner.

The Show A Heart – Card Queen colt will keep increasing in value as Karuta Queen heads towards the $3.50 million dollar Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill on April 2.

The colt is a September 10 foal and is inbred 4×4 to Vice Regal who won 16 races including the NZ 2000 Guineas, MVRC Feehan Handicap, Freeway Stakes and Wellington Guineas.  One his sons, Regal Advice, is the maternal grandsire of Show a Heart, and another, champion Vite Cheval, is the sire of the grand-dam of Karuta Queen.
