Former Darley sire E Dubai will shuttle to Argentina this year. The 13 year-old son of Mr. Prospector was transferred from Darley’s Kentucky base to Ghost Ridge Farms in Pennsylvania in time for the current northern hemisphere breeding season.
E Dubai shuttled to Australia for four years until 2006 but wasn’t popular with broodmare owners. He has sired 58 winners in Australia and NZ with Ego (G2 Avondale Concorde Hcp) his only stakes winner to date.
E Dubai has sired 21 northern hemisphere stakes winners including G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Desert Code. His Godolphin horse Once More Dubai has won Listed events in England and Italy and is currently campaigning in Dubai.
Darley’s North American operation has also lost promising colt Fort Hughes. He was put down on Sunday after breaking down during trackwork at Belmont Park.
“He was a very talented horse who reminded me a lot of his sire Henny Hughes,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said. “This is an extremely tough part of this game. There are a lot of highs, but also a lot of lows.”
Fort Hughes (Henny Hughes) was a four length winner of the LR Jimmy Winkfield Stakes at Aqueduct in January and was being set for the G3 Bay Shore Stakes on April 9.
