Eagle Falls is on track to defend his G1 Oakleigh Plate crown after a barnstorming victory in the G3 Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Eagle Falls (6g Hussonet – Desina by Desert King) came from well back in the field to win impressively. “The Oakleigh Plate is his main goal,” trainer David Hayes said. “Black Caviar is not going on the handicap route so we are very happy about that.
“He was sick last preparation and we were playing catch up. This time we gave him a good spell and I thought if he reproduced his track work he would go very close. He’s also benefited from being trained at our new Euroa base.”
A son of Arrowfield / Cornerstone Farm sire Hussonet, Eagle Falls has turned out a great money spinner for his connections that include Rupert Legh and Andrew Ramsden. He was a $170,000 buy at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions from the draft of Corumbene Stud.
His record now stands at 8 wins in 28 starts for earnings of $1.07 million. His dam Desina is a daughter of stakes winning Prego mare Presina – a half sister to Seto Flowerian and The Golden Dane.
Eagle Falls was runner-up to Wanted in the G1 Newmarket Hcp in 2010 and was far from disgraced on international duty n the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen and G1 Singapore International Sprint.
