Pressday pleases in Santa Anita Purse

Pressday finished a neck second to stablemate Carbonite in the Fools Rush In Purse (1300m) at Santa Anita on Thursday afternoon.

Carbonite (Aldebaran) took the lead in the straight and had enough left at the wire to repel the outside bid of the well-fancied Australian import.  The John Sadler trained duo ran the 1300m turf course in 1:12.83s.

Pressday (Domesday) was bet down to favouritism and he will make amends soon after a first-up bid spanning 22 weeks and a relocation across the Pacific.  “It was his first time in this country,” jockey Joel Rosario commented afterward.  “He ran well.”

Pressday claimed the G1 T J Smith Stakes and G2 Sandown Guineas in 2010.  He didn’t progress and was outed for a bleeding attack in September 2011.  Destined for stud at Eliza Park, Pressday was sent to California and the Victorian stud would have been pleased with his first-up performance.
