Elimbari is the best bred newcomer at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday and she can live up to her pedigree with a debut win in the Schweppes Mineral Water Hcp (Race 2 at 1.45pm AEDT).
Elimbari (2f Fastnet Rock – Shalt Not by St Covet) is a three-quarter sister to Amelia’s Dream (Redoute’s Choice) who was rated the best juvenile of her generation two years ago after winning the Silver Slipper in a canter. The Gai Waterhouse trained flyer would have turned Silver into Gold but for breaking down badly.
Kris Lees prepares Elimbari and he’s not getting ahead of himself despite sending the filly around for a five-length win in a half-mile hit-out at Newcastle on January 6. “She’s a nice filly and trialled well,” Lee revealed. “But the time (49.77s) was only average and there’s still improvement in her.”
Elimbari is by boom sire Fastnet Rock from Shalt Not who was a precocious youngster in her own right winning the Listed Doomben Slipper and Newcastle Coca-Cola Classic. She was also placed behind Testa Rossa in the 1999 Magic Millions Classic.
Shalt Not was raced in partnership by Hilton Cope and Evan Sperling with the late Max Lees. They also race Elimbari along with Kris and his mother Vicki.
