Gillian Heinrich came up with a memorable quote straight after her filly Military Rose captured the 2010 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
“I’ve never won a Group 1,” she told Sky Channel’s Andrew Bensley. “But this is the race I’ve always wanted to win.”
That’s how much the Magic Millions means to Gillian and her husband Hoss. They are still waiting for that elusive Group 1, nevertheless, another Magic Millions is definitely on the cards with their exciting colt Eliminator.
The Gold Coast couple paid $130,000 for Eliminator when he was offered by Lomar Park in January and that seemed a snip after an explosive debut last Saturday week. Despite hanging out during the Kenchi Lifestyle Gardens Maiden (900m), he bolted in by 8 lengths clocking a quick-fire 51.88s.
“He jumped to the front and then sprinted clear in the straight,” Heinrich said. “Two-year-olds can be a day-to-day proposition this early in the season but he looks foolproof.”
Eliminator (2c Choisir – Tapanappa by Giant’s Causeway) is spending some down time at the beach in preparation for the LR Phelan Ready Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm on December 15. Victory in the $100,000 lead-up would qualify the colt for the $2 million Magic Millions Classic on January 12.
The Heinrichs have a proven track record with Lomar Park owner Fred Peisah. They kick-started the stud career of Lomar Park sire Arena by winning the 2004 Inglis Premier at Flemington with his colt Public Opinion.
Peisah has a Magic Millions history of his own going back to 1996 when Lomar Park homebred Winger Charger (Archregent) won the 2YO Classic.
Peisah and Lomar Park studmaster Paul Davies are sending another quality draft of yearlings to the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions including a Henrythenavigator half-brother to Eliminator.
