Vinery sire Excites opened his second crop account with Red Excitement in the Lightning Ridge 2YO Plate at Canberra on Sunday.
The Neville Layt trained colt races in the same interests as brilliant filly Karuta Queen and his connections collected a $50,000 bonus cheque as part of the Inglis Race Series.
Red Excitement (2c Excites – Red Obsession by Red Ransom) was only beaten a length by Diamond Earth in the Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley in October. Given time to mature over the summer, he came out and won the Canberra feature convincingly from Diamond Player (Casino Prince) and Risky Blonde (Zizou).
Owners Glenn and Viive Williams bought Red Excitement for $32,500 at the 2011 Inglis Classic yearling sale. The colt is likely to be aimed at the LR Canberra Black Opal Stakes on March 11.
Excites won the G1 AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m at his third start and returned the following spring to finish second to Wonderful World in the G1 Caulfield Guineas. He is a son of Danewin and is an elder half-brother to Duporth and Tickets.
There have been 14 winners to date from his first crop headed by his Perth based colt Flag Officer and brilliant Brisbane filly Amber’s Crown. Excites stands for a service fee of $8,800 at Vinery.
