Trevor Bailey has a big opinion of Faster Son and he will spell the lightly raced gelding for rich races next year after he runs in the Ian Jeyes Handicap (1200m) at Ipswich today (Race 7 at 4.15pm AEST).
A runaway winner on Melbourne Cup day, Faster Son looks a big chance to make it two wins in a row this afternoon. He was green as grass on his home track on debut but put paid to his rivals in the straight.
Faster Son (3g Fastnet Rock-Sonata by Palace Music) was a $45,000 purchase from the 2008 Inglis Scone Yearling Sale and is one of three winners for G3 Tatts Cup winner and G1 Queensland Oaks runner up Sonata. This is the same family that has produced G1 Victoria Derby winner Amalfi (Carnegie) and G2 Makybe Stakes winner Vigor (O’Reilly). With the services of Queensland’s leading rider Stathi Katsidis and an inside barrier, Faster Son should be very hard to toss.
