Fastnet filly rockets home in Goodwood

Lone Rock sent her residual value soaring when she gunned down Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily for a G1 victory in the The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on Sunday.

Lone Rock (3f Fastnet Rock – Pride of Pine by Lion Cavern) is a member of the in-form Robert Smerdon stable and she graduated to a Group 1 after winning the G3 Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley earlier this season.

“She’s a very talented filly and has had a faultless preparation,” Smerdon said.  “It’s a really good result for the owner Tony Bongiorno.  He’s been with me for many years and this is his first Group 1.

“We knew she had a big run in her and we were just waiting for that day.  This was the aim right from the time she came in from the paddock.”

Lone Rock is a daughter of Coolmore Stud sire Fastnet Rock and cost $75,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She was bred by Lisa Randle and is the first foal of a Taree winner.

Second dam Storm At Night (Night Shift) is a half-sister to Galapagos Girl (VRC Frances Tressady St-G3) and Procrastinate (VATC Tristarc St-G3).  The latter is the dam of Champion South African mare Laisserfaire and Australian stakes winners Foreplay, Personify and Time Thief.

Lone Rock’s dam Pride of Pine will be offered by Glastonbury Farms at the upcoming Magic Millions National broodmare sale as Lot 752.  She is carrying a positive test to Fastnet Rock.

Sydney agent Kieran Moore purchased a sister to Lone Rock for $230,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
