Fastnet Rock colt rebounds in Roman Consul

Foxwedge was back to his best in the G2 ATC Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.  The Fastnet Rock colt was handy throughout before holding off Victorian visitor Masthead by a short neck.

“He’s a genuine racehorse and is a pleasure to train,” John O’Shea said.  “When he got to the front you could see him stargazing.  He’s probably a better chaser.”

Foxwedge (3c Fastnet Rock – Forest Native by Forest Wildcat) had won the G3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill in August and followed up with a fourth, after being demoted from third, in the G1 Golden Rose.

He was a $925,000 purchase for agent James Harron from the Luskin Park draft at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale and is raced by Dr and Mrs Edmund Bateman.

Coolmore sire Fastnet Rock got him from USA bred stakes performer Forest Native.  The mare has a two year-old sister to Foxwedge that made $600,000 earlier this year and she also has a yearling filly by the same sire.

Fastnet Rock also had a productive afternoon in Hong Kong on Saturday siring Sha Tin winners Ferrabosco (ex La Suffragette by Palace Music) and Chancellor (ex Glitzy Guru, by Johann Quatz).
