Fastnet Rock colt tops Day 2 at Magic Millions HIT Sale

A colt by Fastnet Rock topped the second and final day of the 2010 Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale at the Gold Coast on Thursday.

Local bloodstock agent Grant Morgan went to $150,000 to secure the colt who was offered for sale by the Nolen Racing team.  “He’s a beautiful walker,” Morgan said of the well bred youngster.  “The sire is going so well and he’s from a top family – it’s great to be able to buy him.”

Morgan manages the syndicate that races up-and-coming Fastnet Rock gelding Faster Son.  The Gold Coast sprinter has won at Sandown and Caulfield since travelling south for the spring carnival and his next assignment is scheduled for the Listed Century Sprint at Flemington on Oaks day.

“A number of clients who part own Faster Son will take a share in this colt,” Morgan said.  “He will also be trained by Trevor Bailey.”

Queensland buyer Edward O’Dwyer went to $135,000 to buy a Testa Rossa colt from the draft of Washpool Lodge.  “He was my pick of the sale,” O’Dwyer said. “He’s very athletic and has proven speed.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to buy a horse from such a professional vendor as Washpool Lodge.  You know it’s been well educated and very sound.”

The two day sale grossed over $8.31 million at an average of $38,493 and Magic Millions Managing Director Stephen Silk said his team was delighted to see Wednesday’s encouraging results flow on to Thursday.

“We had a strong buying bench from around Australia and overseas and there’s no doubt they have snapped up some great value purchases.  This sale has great attraction to our Asian clients thus to have finished the sale with an increased gross and a higher average price is a great result considering the high Australian dollar.

“Last year’s figures were boosted with the sale of Seriously Good for $360,000 – so to have such positive figures with a $180,000 top priced lot is impressive.”
