First stakes winner for Haradasun

Kabayan gave Coolmore Stud sire Haradasun his first stakes win at Rosehill on Saturday.  The Gai Waterhouse trained talent returned to form for a G2 victory in the Stan Fox Stakes.

Kabayan (3g Haradasun – Tarlaquena by Don Eduardo) had run second to Lady of Harrods first-up in the G3 McNeil Stakes at Caulfield but then disappointed back home in the G1 Golden Rose.  “I thought he would just win the Golden Rose but they were a bit too brilliant for him,” Waterhouse revealed.  “But the extra ground and steadier tempo was perfect today.”

Ridden a perfect race by Nash Rawiller, he eased into the clear and quickly accelerated past his rivals to win over 1500 metres by the best part of two lengths over Golden Rose runner-up Albrecht.

A homebred for Gooree Stud, Kabayan had finished a nose second to Sizzling in the G1 T J Smith Stakes during the Brisbane winter carnival and was spelled immediately with the spring in mind.  “He will be backing up in the Spring Champion Stakes,” Waterhouse said.  “When he gets over further he will be even better.”

Haradasun (Fusaichi Pegasus) was a G1 winner of the Doncaster Hcp and George Ryder Stakes before travelling overseas to conquer an international field in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Kabayan heads a list of 8 first-crop winners among 37 starters by Haradasun.  His dam is a three-quarter sister to G3 MVRC Tesio Stakes winner Matras.  Second dam Tropical Affair won the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial.

Haradasun stands for a $16,500 fee at Coolmore Stud.
