Exciting filly Satin Shoes became the fifth STC Silver Slipper winner in a row for Arrowfield Stud sires on Saturday.  

Satin Shoes (2f Flying Spur – Star Satire by Volksraad) proved she is on track for the Golden Slipper with a courageous front-running victory.  The Clarry Conners trained filly was pressured in front but still had enough in reserve to deny More Than Ready filly Elite Falls.

Satin Shoes followed previous Arrowfield Silver Slipper winners Shaft (Flying Spur), Amelia’s Dream (Redoute’s Choice), Melito (Redoute’s Choice) and Chance Bye (Snitzel).

Connors is striving for five wins of his own in the Golden Slipper following Tierce (1991), Burst (1992), Prowl (1998) and Belle Du Jour (2000).  “She’s as good as any of them,” Connors declared.  “She’s pretty smart and I haven’t even screwed her down yet.”

Satin Shoes won on debut at Randwick in October and resumed after a fourth month break to win the Listed Widden Stakes a fortnight ago.  She completed a hat-trick in the Silver Slipper that increased her bank to more than $254,000.

The Flying Spur blue-blood cost $700,000 at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale from leading Scone nursery Cressfield.  She is owned by Dr Edmund Bateman and is a half-sister to New Zealand G2 winner Zarzuela (Zabeel).

Their dam Star Satire was a G1 winner of the Otaki Maori Stakes.  She foaled a Redoute’s Choice colt in September and was bred back to Australia’s champion sire in October.

Flying Spur completed a stakes double later in the day at Rosehill via Montana Flyer.  His durable daughter won the G3 STC Millie Fox Stakes for the second year in a row.  The Gai Waterhouse trained mare opened her black-type account back in October 2008 when a G2 winner of the Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick.
