Flying start for Touchstone Farm

Flying Pegasus has been one of the busiest stallions in Western Australia since retiring to Touchstone Farm in 2007.

Flying Pegasus was a G3 winner of the Kindergarten Stakes as a two year-old and he trained on to score a brilliant victory in the Royal Sovereign Stakes at Randwick as a three year-old.

His sire Fusaichi Pegasus is sure to make a name for himself as a sire of sires with Haradasun, Zizou, Enemy Of Average and Flying Pegasus just beginning their stud careers in Australia.

Roman Ruler was his first northern hemisphere son to go to stud and he is making a huge impact in North America this year.  He was a G1 winner of the Haskell Invitation and now stands at Hill ‘ n’ Dale Stud in Kentucky.

Roman Ruler is engaged in a exciting duel with Darley sire Offlee Wild for first-season honours with just a fortnight of the season remaining.  Their juveniles have each earned in excess of $1.85 million but Roman Ruler is well ahead on the individual winners tally by 26 to 15.

Flying Pegasus served 250 mares in his first two seasons in WA and that trend continued this year.

“He has had a terrific start so far and has been well supported by broodmare owners,” Touchstone Farm manager Marco Pierluigi said.  “We are also seeing repeat business with a lot of breeders bringing their mares back this year.

Much hype surrounds the Touchstone sire’s first crop of foals.  He has 54 catalogued for the upcoming Perth Magic Millions and Pierluigi says there are some outstanding types among them. “From all reports, they are prepping nicely and we are really looking forward to the sales,” he said.

The Flying Pegasus yearlings from Touchstone includes a close relation to G1 Railway Stakes placegetter Colour Correct (High Yield).  Catalogued as Lot 87, the colt is from Flying Anabell (Anabaa), a winning half sister to G2 C B Cox Stakes winner Never Blue (Military Plume).  The latter is the dam of Colour Correct.

“He is real nice type,” Pierluigi said.  “He’s built very much in the mould of his father – big and strong.”

Another highlight of the Touchstone draft is the Flying Pegasus colt out of the stakes winning juvenile Genuine Girl (Lot 36) making him a half brother to G3 WATC Lee-Steere Stakes winner Destino (Bletchley Park).

“Although he is a November foal, he doesn’t lack anything,” Pierluigi said.  “He’s a beautiful mover.”

The Flying Pegasus – Karsavina Star filly (Lot 77) is out of a half sister to G1 Goodwood Handicap winner Let Go Thommo.  Her two year-old half-sister by Balestrini is showing plenty of promise in private.

Flying Pegasus has come full circle now that he is based in WA.  He was bred by Hall of Famer Bart Cummings and Perth multi-millionaire Bill Wyllie.  They also shared success with G1 winning Danehill filly Magical Miss before Wyllie passed away in 2006.

Flying Pegasus was purchased for $250,000 at the 2004 Inglis Easter Sale by Les Samba.  He was trained by David Payne and, apart from the Royal Sovereign and Kindergarten Stakes, he was also G1 placed in the Canterbury Guineas.

His dam Cashier (Danehill) was a G2 winner of the AJC Silver Shadow Stakes and runner up in the G2 Black Opal Stakes.

With 54 yearlings catalogued – the most lots ever seen for a first-season sire in WA –there will be a Flying Pegasus for everyone at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions.
