Maryanne Thexton can train a double at Eagle Farm today with first starters Encostas Gift (Encosta De Lago) and Kissengarni (General Nediym). Both colts were given soft trials at Eagle Farm on December 8 and will be fancied on debut. Of the two, Kissengarni has a more precocious pedigree.
Kissengarni (3c General Nediym – Girl Like You by Rory’s Jester) is engaged in the Channel 7 Maiden (Race 4 at 2.10pm AEST, 3.10pm AEDT). He was beaten a neck when runner-up to Burns Bright in a hit-out over 1100m last Wednesday.
He is a younger half-brother to Lindsay Park filly Seattle Lass (Fraar) who won two juvenile events at Morphettville before training on to score at Moonee Valley as a three year-old.
Kissengarni is also a three quarter brother to another David Hayes trained filly named Miss Broadway (General Nediym). She was beaten a head and a neck on debut in the 2005 Debutants Stakes (LR) at Caulfield.
Second dam Swell Time Girl (Niccolo Polo) won the Geelong Oaks (LR) and third dam Paraparap (Manihi) won an Easter Cup (G3) at Caulfield.
Kissengarni was a $77,500 buy at the 2007 Magic Millions National Foal Sale. He was on-sold six months later at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale for $120,000 to the Jamaica Run Syndicate.
