A sparkling track gallop by G1 The Galaxy winner Atomic Force has boosted his chances for the G2 Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Atomic Force has been in work since November but continues to amaze trainer Darren Smith. “I know he’s had a long campaign but he’s in great order,” Smith said. “He worked nice and strong at Newcastle on Tuesday morning and will travel to Brisbane on Thursday.”
Atomic Force (5g Danehill Dancer – Show Of Force by Luskin Star) cost $50,000 from the Raheen Stud consignment at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale and his bank balance now tops $564,000.
Smith is unsure of Atomic Force’s winter program but is emphatic he won’t contest the G1 Doomben 10,000 or the G1 Stradbroke Handicap.
However, he would not rule out lining up against Black Caviar in the G1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben. “I want to see how he goes on Saturday before making any definite plans.”
At his only start in the Sunshine State, Atomic Force was a half-length third in the 2011 Magic Millions Sprint won by Temple Of Boom.
Connections would prefer a wet track if Atomic Force meets Black Caviar in the BTC Cup. The Galaxy was his third victory from six starts on a heavy track.
