Former Woodsland shuttler Jade Hunter has been pensioned from active service in the United States by the Allen Paulson Living Trust. The 25-year-old Mr. Prospector stallion will spend his retirement years at Old Friends in Kentucky.
Jade Hunter (USA) stood southern hemisphere seasons between 1995 and 1997 but was not a success for the Ingham brothers. He served 215 mares in three seasons at Woodlands and did not sire a black-type winner.
He had been based in New Zealand for a one-off season in 1989 and from that crop came VATC Tristarc Stakes (G3) winner Procrastinate and AJC Surround Stakes (G2) winner So Keen.
Procrastinate found fame as the dam of South African Group 1 mare Laisserfaire, Yarraman Park sire Foreplay, 2009 Zeditave Stakes winner Time Thief and Adelaide Listed winner Personify who sold for a record $2 million at the 2007 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
Jade Hunter stood at Allen Paulson’s Brookside Farm and later Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm in Kentucky. He sired 2002 US Horse of the Year Azeri, a Paulson’s homebred mare who retired with 11 Group1 victories and the top spot on the North American female earnings list with over $4 million in earnings.
Trained by Richard Lundy, Jade Hunter won six races including the Donn Handicap (G1) and Gulfstream Park Handicap (G1). He has sired 46 stakes winners among 509 winners with prizemoney totalling $40 million.
