Galileo quinella in Bendigo Cup

Tanby led home a quinella in the LR Bendigo Cup for Coolmore sire Galileo and Team Williams on Wednesday.

Tanby (5g Galileo – Dane Belltar by Danewin) forced a clear passage on the home turn and then opened a winning break at the top of the straight.  “They went fairly quick early but he gave me a beautiful ride,” jockey Steven King said.  “When I asked him to switch on, he hit the line well.”

At First Sight (5h Galileo c Healing Music by Bering) charged home to reduce the winning margin to two lengths.  The runner-up is assured of a run in Melbourne Cup, however, Tanby will need a weight penalty to force his way up the order of entry.

Galileo got the Bendigo Cup winner from G3 SAJC Auraria Stakes winner Dane Belltar.  She was also G1 placed in the VRC Oaks and SAJC Australasian Oaks.

Tanby was a $200,000 Inglis Easter yearling sale graduate from Mill Park.  He was runner-up to French stayer Dunaden (Nicobar) in the G3 Geelong Cup leading into the Bendigo Cup.

He is Dane Belltar’s first foal and she followed up with the winners Fawkner (Reset) and Revitalise (Bel Esprit).  Her 2yo is a Red Ransom colt that sold for $120,000 at the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  The mare has missed to Choisir and Shamardal in the last two years.
