So You Think has firmed into second favouritism for the Breeders’ Cup Classic after the withdrawal of Tizway on Tuesday.
Uncle Mo heads the market at 3/1 for the November 5 championship at Churchill Downs ahead of So You Think (5/1) and Havre De Grace (6/1).
Tizway was the only other candidate under double figures. Trainer H. James Bond announced his scratching after discovering a suspensory ligament injury. “It breaks my heart,” Bond said. ” Tizway is the best horse I’ve ever trained and he was working brilliantly.”
Tizway is a son of two-time Breeders’ Classic winner Tiznow. He scored G1 victories in the Whitney Handicap and Metropolitan Handicap at his last two starts. He won the Met Mile in 1:32.90s, the second-fastest time in the history of the race.
Tizway is scheduled to begin stud duties at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky next year.
The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile has also lost a leading candidate with the withdrawal of leading west-coast performer Twirling Candy. He has been retired to stand at Lane’s End Farm in 2012.
Trained by John Sadler, the Candy Ride colt was a G1 winner of the 2010 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita. He was runner-up in the G1 Hollywood Gold Cup and G1 Pacific Classic at his last two starts.
The news was the second Breeders’ Cup blow for Sadler. His top filly Zazu was ruled out of the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic last week.
