WA Goldfields galloper Dark Royalty completed a winning week for Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia members in the Kambalda Cup (1400m) on Sunday.
Dark Royalty (Blackfriars) is a younger half-brother to $1.85 million earner Karuta Queen and was a $110,000 buy for John Chalmers Bloodstock (FBAA) at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions. He will step up to black-type for the first time in Kalgoorlie’s LR Hannans Hcp (1400m) next Wednesday.
“I probably will never get another horse good enough to run in the Hannans,” local trainer Joanne Forrest admitted. “He does get back but is improving and can sustain a long run.”
Chalmers claimed the first-leg of a weekend double when Gigante was successful first-up in the Morley Growers Market Hcp (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday. The Stratum sprinter was purchased on behalf of owner Sam Trimboli from Widden Stud for $170,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and has returned over $367,000 to date.
The FBAA acronym appeared three times at Warwick Farm last Wednesday starting with Our Mantra in the Casino Prince @ Vinery Maiden Plate (1200m). The Sebring 3yo was racing first-up for Peter Horwitz in the same grey, red & white colours as Group 1 stars Juggler and Sir Dapper.
Bill Mitchell (FBAA) bought Our Mantra for $180,000 from Attunga Stud at the 2016 Gold Coast Magic Millions. “He showed ability without being physically mature last season,” trainer Joe Pride reported. “We weren’t going to hurt him by taking him to the races too often as a 2yo. He’s the sort of horse who will probably stretch out to a distance.”
Canberra (Sepoy) won again for Laurel Oak Bloodstock (FBAA) in the McGrath Estate Agents Hcp (1300m). She’s a $175,000 graduate from Newgate Farm at the 2015 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
Louis Mihalyka and the Laurel Oak team cheered her home to a third victory in four starts while on a Golf and Stud tour in New Zealand.
Kiwi-bred 4yo Social Element completed the FBAA treble with an on-pace victory at Warwick Farm. He was purchased for $55,000 by Gai Waterhouse, Phill Cataldo and Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) at the 2015 NZ 2YO Sale.
Social Element (Savabeel) is rated an exciting prospect and holds a nomination for the Metropolitan Hcp at Randwick on September 30. “Successful stayers are lighter than heavier and he came into the stable weighing 468kg,” Gai said. “The Metropolitan is a far cry for a horse who could not win a trial, even after four attempts, to racing in a Group 1.”
Blue Sky agent Julian Blaxland completed a double of his own on Saturday with Gold Standard in the G2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill and Whypeeo who justified a $1.16 quote with a three-length romp at Doomben.
Gold Standard (Sebring) was knocked down for $160,000 to Waterhouse and Blaxland, on behalf of Mt Hallowell Stud’s Craig Thompson, at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale. “He will go to the (G1) Golden Rose and I think he’s the horse to beat,” Waterhouse predicted. “He is such a special colt – in 12 months time he could be one for the Cox Plate.”
Whypeeo (I Am Invincible) will be set for the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) in January. “He couldn’t go a yard when he was a colt,” trainer Toby Edmonds revealed. “We tried blinkers but it wasn’t until we decided to geld him that he turned the corner.”
Whypeeo is a half-brother to Meliora (G2 Angus Armanasco Stakes) and cost $200,000 from Yarraman Park at the 2016 Gold Coast Magic Millions
Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) was in the frame at Devonport on Sunday with well-bred filly Voices. A $10,000 price-tag from the 2016 Tasmanian Magic Millions looked a bargain when she won second time out in the Luxbet Maiden (1350m).
Voices is a first-crop daughter of Armidale Stud’s Randwick stakes winner Needs Further (Encosta De Lago) and her dam Come On Rory (Rory’s Jester) was stakes-placed in Adelaide for Lindsay Park. Armidale owner Robyn Whishaw kept a share as did Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy.
