Goldikova returns for fourth Breeders’ Cup Mile

Trainer Freddy Head is convinced Goldikova is as good as ever in the lead-up to an unprecedented fourth G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs.

Head is confident the six year-old daughter of Anabaa is sitting on another big effort and is amazed how well she is doing for her return to the United States.

Goldikova will arrive at Churchill Downs on Saturday evening. “She’s very special and she loves the two turns and left-handed tracks. She looks the same, she works the same at home, and I’m going in with a lot of confidence.”

Head admits he can’t recall ever seeing a horse like Goldikova and he rode Miesque! “In France, we’ve never had a horse who has lasted for so long as Goldikova. It’s all new territory for me.”

Miesque (Nureyev) won 12 of her 16 career starts and was the first horse to win consecutive editions of the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 1987-88.

Goldikova won the G1 Prix d’Ispahan for the second time this year and followed up by claiming the G1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville for the fourth time in July!

She was second to Canford Cliffs in the Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot and was only beaten a head in the Prix de la Foret last time out at Longchamp.
