Heytesbury sire Husson Lightning maintained his lead at the top of Sunspeed’s second-season premiership when Handful Of Dust was successful at Bunbury on Sunday.
Handful Of Dust (3f Husson Lightning – Lust For Dust by Made Of Gold) looked a progressive type when stretching out to 1410m in the Excellence Within Reach Maiden. She is trained at Oakford by Paul Tapper and came from midfield for a convincing victory over Slick Shifter (Flying Spur) and Scenic Blitz (Natural Blitz).
The Tappers bought into her family when Bruce Tapper purchased Lust For Dust for $4,500 at the 2003 Adelaide Magic Millions.
Lust For Dust was beaten a half-head by Royal Drive in the G2 WA Oaks at Belmont (2400m) and the following year claimed the 2006 York Cup (2000m). She is closely related to G1 WA Derby winner Shirazamatazz (Barathea).
The classic influence in the bottom half of her pedigree suggests Handful Of Dust might be one to follow over longer trips this season.
Husson Lightning (Hussonet) was bred for speed winning the G2 VRC Maribyrnong Plate and finishing second in the G2 Slipper Stakes and Magic Millions 2YO Classic. He has sired 6 three year-old winners this season and is well-placed to go one better than last season when he was runner-up for the Sunspeed freshman title.
Husson Lightning stands alongside Saxon (Danehill) at Heytesbury Stud and they are both priced at $5,500 (inc gst) service fees.
Saxon is the sire of Lust For Dust’s older half-sister Mystic Dust and Paul Tapper has nominated her to race second-up at Ascot this Saturday.
