Darley shuttler Hard Spun was the star turn at the Barretts May 2YO Sale in California on Monday evening.
The Hard Spun – Sweet Minister colt commanded $220,000 to top the 73 lots that changed hands. Offered by Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables, he is a half-brother to G1 Keeneland Blue Grass Stakes winner Sinister Minister and was purchased by George Bolton.
The Kentucky bred colt had created a favourable impression with a 400m breeze-up in 21.40s which was the fastest time recorded on Friday morning.
Hard Spun (Danzig) sired his first winner when Mabroor scored on debut at Haydock on May 7.
He was a G1 winner of the King’s Bishop Stakes at Saratoga and has shuttled to Darley Australia for the last three years. His first southern bred yearlings sold up to $100,000 at the 2011 majors.
The Barretts Sale average of $36,466 was less than 2% down on last year and the median remained the same at $20,000.
Other Australian shuttlers in the Top 10 were Medaglia d’Oro ($180,000), Congrats ($150,000) and Henny Hughes ($85,000).
