High Noon for Juddmonte mare in Nassau Stakes

Frankel’s connections are floating on Cloud 9 after his stunning victory in the G1 Sussex Stakes and they can create more history with his stablemate Midday on Saturday.

Midday (Oasis Dream) will bid to become the first mare to win three renewals of the G1 Nassau Stakes (2000m) on the fifth and final day of Glorious Goodwood.

Khalid Abdulla’s homebred mare has posted comfortable Nassau victories over the past two years and she is coming off three encouraging starts this term for Sir Henry Cecil and jockey Tom Queally.

Midday won the G2 Middleton Stakes at York in May before finishing second to St Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu) in the G1 Coronation Cup at Epsom Downs and to Misty For Me (Galileo) in the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.

Ballydoyle filly Misty for Me will be hardest to beat.  In addition to the Pretty Polly, she also won the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas following a juvenile campaign that included G1 triumphs in the Moyglare Stakes at the Curragh and Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp.

The Juddmonte team will also be represented in the Nassau by recent Newcastle Listed winner Principal Role (Empire Maker).

Meanwhile, Sir Henry Cecil has confirmed the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on October 15 will be the seasonal finale for Frankel.  “We might see him again before then,” Cecil revealed.   “But the Juddmonte International in August will come a little bit soon and the Breeders’ Cup is unlikely this year.”

Frankel (Galileo) will campaign as a four year-old in 2012.  “You’ve seen him four times already this year,” he said.  “Hopefully you will see a lot of him next year.”

British handicapper Dominic Gardiner-Hill will rate Frankel as the best horse on the planet after his Sussex victory.  “Before Wednesday he was on 130, which was the same as Australian sprinter Black Caviar,” Gardiner-Hill said.  “I think he will now go up to at least 133 and quite probably 134 or 135.”
