English import My Kingdom Of Fife only does enough to win but that was enough to complete a stakes winning hat-trick in the G2 Hollindale Stakes on Saturday.
My Kingdom Of Fife (6g Kingmambo – Fairy Godmother by Fairy King) has been a revelation since arriving in Australia. He scored narrow but convincing wins in the G3 Doncaster Prelude and G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes last month before travelling to the Gold Coast.
The Hollindale finish was a replica of those Randwick wins. He settled in the box seat and refused to buckle when challenged by Irish bred stayer Glass Harmonium in the straight.
Trainer Chris Waller won the Hollindale and Doomben Cups with Metal Bender last year and My Kingdom Of Fife has been installed a $4 favourite to double up on May 21.
“My Kingdom Of Fife is very professional and likes it here in Australia,” Waller said. “He gets going early and sticks on well.”
Sydney based hedge fund manager Richard Pegum bought My Kingdom Of Fife for 60,000 guineas (AUD 102,650) at Tattersalls in October 2010. The gelding has paid that back with prizemoney cheques totalling $570,000 and the Doomben Cup is worth another $500,000.
My Kingdom Of Fife is by Champion Kentucky sire Kingmambo (Mr Prospector) and was originally raced by Queen Elizabeth. He hails from the family of her English 1000 Guineas winner Highclere (Queens Hussar).
