Jack sweeps Tasmanian Triple Crown

Evergreen galloper Youthful Jack completed the weight-for-age Tasmanian Triple Crown at Launceston on Wednesday night when he scored a stunning win in the Listed George Adams Plate (1600m).

Ridden confidently by Robert Thompson for caretaker trainer Adam Trinder, Youthful Jack had his rivals beaten a long way from home and he put to bed doubts over his ability to run out a strong mile in spectacular fashion.

Youthful Jack (6g Youthful Legs – Formative by White Bridle) was offered at the 2006 Magic Millions August Sale and is now the winner of 16 races and some $939,000.  He has claimed 8 stakes races topped by the G2 Royal Sovereign Stakes

Part-owned by Ross Stitt and Geoff Sheedy, Youthful Jack is the best of four stakes winners by the American stakes winning Explodent sire Youthful Legs.  He completed a clean sweep of the Tasmanian feature sprints after the LR The Tote Stakes (1200m) and LR Thomas Lyons Stakes (1400m).

“The horse had to go for a throat operation and my wife rang up every day to see if he was okay,” Sheedy said.  “He’s like family and I named him after my young bloke – he’s a true champion.”

Trinder was thrilled with the latest win and is now hoping to extend the unbeaten run in Melbourne.  “That was a great thrill seeing him run the mile – without getting ahead of ourselves we expected him to win the first two races.

“He’s an old warhorse with a lot of problems and has two hours of individual attention every day.  It’s been a great learning curve, especially with Ross always there for advice.  The horse is enjoying the relaxed environment down here in Tassie.  He likes the lifestyle.”

Trinder said the options at Flemington on Super Saturday included the G2 Blamey Stakes over 1600m.
