Sunspeed support for Sea Siren

Keith Biggs wasn’t the only WA based breeder cheering home Sea Siren in the G2 Light Fingers Stakes at Warwick Farm on Saturday.  She defeated Streama and Hallowell Belle to complete a winning hat-trick following wins at Canterbury in December and January.

Sea Siren (3f Fastnet Rock – Express A Smile by Success Express) is a younger half-sister to Sunspeed stallions Oratorio (Mungrup Stud) and Discorsi (Yarradale Stud).  Her second dam Hold That Smile (Haulpak) was a G1 Karrakatta Plate winner for the Holmes a Court family and she remains an ingoing influence at Heytesbury Stud.

The Light Fingers continued the success Biggs has enjoyed with Coolmore Stud stallions.  “Two of the first Group 1 winners that we bred here – Danelagh and Dizelle – were for Keith,” Coolmore manager Peter O’Brien said.  “On the evidence we’ve seen so far, Sea Siren can go on to imitate those two and establish herself in Group 1 company.

“Her dam Express A Smile wasn’t very big, but Sea Siren was a good size as a foal and was a really good doer,” O’Brien added.  “We’ve come to expect that with the progeny of Fastnet Rock.”

Biggs sold Oratorio (Aus) to Mungrup Stud and the son of Stravinsky is the top-priced sire in WA at a $27,500 service fee.

The Kalgoorlie miner maintained an interest in Discorsi (Galileo) who retired to Yarradale Stud in 2010.  He won the Listed VRC Gibson – Carmichael Stakes at Flemington but a recurring leg injury kept Lee Freedman from building on that promising start as a late season two year-old.

“Discorsi is a magnificent looking horse,” Biggs said.  “He’s a Galileo with the speed to win a stakes race as a two year-old and I think he will do very well in WA.”

Yarradale put Discorsi over 100 mares first-up in 2010 and was just as busy at a $5,500 fee last year.

Besides Oratorio and Discorsi, Sea Siren is also a half-sister to New Zealand G2 winner Lady Dehere (Dehere), South African G2 winner Oracy (Zabeel) and NZ Listed winner The Lady (Stravinsky).

Express A Smile died in March 2011.  Her last foal is a 2yo Street Sense filly.
