Jeune gelding just too good in Metropolitan

The Verminator led home a Chris Waller trained quinella with a comprehensive victory in the G1 ATC Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick.  Stablemate Hawk Island finished nearly three lengths astern of the winner.

The Jeune gelding won the LR Wyong Cup last month and looks a very smart stayer in the making.  “Chris said to just go forward from the wide gate and hope for a bit of luck,” winning jockey Craig Newitt said.  “He was full of running when we topped the rise and was going to win a long, long way out.”

The Verminator (5g Jeune – Fraar Side by Fraar) was sold by Lindsay Park Stud to John Smith’s KP Thoroughbreds for $17,000 at the 2007 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale.  He was re-offered by Kulani Park at the 2008 Inglis Sydney Classic yearling sale but failed to reach a $37,5000 reserve.

The Verminator has won 7 races from 24 starts accumulating over $560,000.  His dam Fraar Side was a Moonee Valley winner and her Jeune gelding Cruise Home has won three races in Singapore.  The mare’s last foal is a 2yo filly by Benicio.
