NZ Bloodstock Karaka Sale graduates dominated the Avondale meeting on Wednesday, winning eight races on the Cup day card.

Irish Colleen (5m Shinko King – Fayette by Grosvenor) out-sprinted the opposition to land the G2 Concorde Handicap over 1200m.  She landed the biggest victory of her career by over a length from Mallinson Road (Sandtrap) and Beautiful Girl (Black Minnaloushe).  The placegetters provided a Karaka trifecta in the feature sprint.

Trained by Stephen McKee, Irish Colleen was an $8,500 weanling purchase by Daniel Nakhle at the 2005 NZB National Weanling Sale from Fayette Park Stud.

Now the winner of over $170,000, Irish Colleen is a daughter of seven time winner Fayette, with both descending directly from the Bart Cummings trained Australian Horse of the Year Maybe Mahal.

Irish Jewel (2f Street Cry – Lowan Behold, by Umatilla) jumped into fifth place in the current Karaka Million order of entry when she won the La-Z-Boy Chair 2YO Handicap (1100m).  The filly looks set to give Sir Patrick Hogan another top chance in the NZ$1 milion Karaka Million on 31 January after Katie Lee and The Heckler represented him in 2009, the latter winning the event.

Irish Jewel was purchased by her trainer Andrew Scott at the 2009 Karaka Select Sale for $125,000 from Twin Pines.

Her winning dam Lowan Behold was purchased in foal to Mr. Nancho for $2,400 at the September Karaka Spring Sale by Mark Brooks, who was clearly impressed by Irish Jewel when he broke her in earlier this year.

The G2 Avondale Cup was won by Ginga Dude (Istadaad – Clatitude by Clay Hero) who has a half-sister by Mr. Nancho entered in the 2010 Karaka Select Sale under the consignment of JK Farm.  The filly (Lot 914) will parade early on February 5.

Clatitude’s two-year-old half-brother by Handsome Ransom was purchased for $82,500 by Dale Short at the NZB Ready to Run Sale in November.
