Kempinsky sired his first stakes winner when Chateau Fort broke through in the G3 Gunsynd Classic at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Kempinsky (Danehill – Tristalove by Sir Tristram) stood his first season at Rangal Park in 2010. He had transferred to the Euroa stud in an arrangement with Independent Stallions studmaster Mike Becker .
Bred in the purple, Kempinsky was a G2 winner of the AAMI Vase at Moonee Valley for a partnership that included Walter Alteri and Sir Patrick Hogan. There have been 30 winners from his first two crops and he’s making headway despite siring stock that need time.
Chateau Fort (3c Kempinsky – Chouette by Dolphin Street) will now be set for the G1 Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11. He will take the traditional route to the classic via the Rough Habit Plate.
“I thought 1600 metres would be a little short but he was full of running at the finish,” trainer Paul Messara said. “He’s been very immature but now we’ll see what he is made of in Brisbane.”
Chateau Fort was bred by Messara’s grandfather Maurice and won his maiden at Scone on March 29. He is from Sandown Hillside winner Chouette who is related to Messara’s G2 winner Mic Mac. The mare died in 2010 without producing another foal.
