Tasmanian star Lady Lynette is about to begin another campaign after her proposed sale to a New Zealand breeder was cancelled. She will race first-up in the G3 Bow Mistress Trophy in Hobart this Sunday.
Queensland based owner Doug Green sold the mare after she finished fifth in the G1 Myer Classic at Flemington in October. But the deal, reported to be in the vicinity of $500,000, fell through.
Green opted to keep her racing and the millionaire mare has been in work with Seven Mile Beach trainers David and Scott Brunton since the sale was called off. “She has been an incredible race mare,” Scott Brunton said. “I wish they were all like her but she’s a rarity.”
Lady Lynette (7m Ladoni – Queen’s Own by Coronation Day) took her earnings past the million dollar mark after a spring campaign that included a G2 victory VRC Blazer Stakes at Flemington. She cost just $13,000 out of the Armidale draft at the 2006 Tasmanian Magic Millions.
Lady Lynette defeated I’m A Hussy and Happy Angel in last year’s Bow Mistress and she doubled up a fortnight later in the LR Vamos Stakes in Launceston.
Armidale Stud has a Magnus half brother to Lady Lynette catalogued as Lot 147 for the Inglis Premier yearling sale in Melbourne on February 27.
